City Of Bones [the movie]: review and discussion + other anticipated book-movie adaptations

If you follow me on instagram you probably saw my mini spam of The Mortal Instruments pictures.

I regret nothing.

Ananya, Darshana and I booked advance tickets in the fear of them being sold out on the night. That's just how enthusiastic we are.
I wore an angelic rune on my wrist (done with a waterproof liquid eyeliner). Mind my hair as it was still damp.

I made the best friends today! Ananya and I have been friends for many years now and through her I meet Darshana. Through Darshana I meet Grace. And through Grace I meant Stephany!

We are fans off 99% of the same exact things.

  • Misfits
  • Divergent
  • Holy Musical B@man
  • A Very Potter Musical
  • Infernal devices
  • Supernatural
  • Percy Jackson
A+ guys.

It was like Shadowhunters unite! Stephany left before this picture sadly. We all wore black heavy duty boots in tribute to the film. We also all wore black, aside from my brown parka and Darshana's white jumper.

It was quite exciting because I'm pretty sure the majority of the audience were huge fans. We got the Xtreme screen but the theater was not filled out, which was to our surprise.

The die hard fans like ourselves stayed until the very end, I'm talking the lights came back on.

Let's get into the review

{SPOILERS ALERT}

Pros:
I LOVE IT!

I think the director followed the book so well and the little changes that were made was just to incorporate the humorous lines without dragging on every detail. Little things were left out but by my book, the most important parts were concluded.

The effects were superb. The silent brothers, wow. The garden, wow. The cathedral, wow. The cup, wow. The portal, wow. The under worlders, wow. The runes, wow.

The kiss scene was so romantic and beautiful! I feel like such an annoying little girl obsessing over it but you would understand if you've seen it too! Demi's song was sheer perfection. I can't get over how beautiful the scene was.

I ship Isabella and Simon so bad. It's clear as days that the director tried to hint the relationship, which didn't happen until later in the series but I just want them together so bad I don't even care, I'm actually glad they did. It only means there will be less cramming of side stories in the next few movies for the audience to make sense of their sudden relationship.

I APPROVE OF SIMON'S CASTING WITH EVERY INCH OF MY HEART.

Magnus and Alec, just kiss already why don't you?! They are perfect.
I will admit I was not please with the cast of Jace, originally. However Jamie swayed me with his amazing performance. Though he does not fit my Jace, I think he did pulled of Jace nevertheless. I didn't think he suited an arrogant role, where he can praise himself and get away with it because he has the looks of Lucifer. I was sure I'd be let down, but Jamie was absolutely perfect. I can quote him all day.

Okays:
They left out a lot of Alec's story. I can't complain but having more of him would be totally fine in my books.

Clary was portrayed a lot more flirtatious than I imagined. I can ignore it though, but if they hadn't done so, I would be even more happy.

Valentine, although stunning, looked to young to be a father of a teenager.

Cons:
NOTHING, LITERALLY NOTHING.

BEST BOOK MOVIE ADAPTATION EVER! I think it may be even better than HP, because they followed the book almost down to every full stop (however I do understand HP is too detailed as books to do the same).

Some of my favourite fan made jokes:

malec_shipper_  followed me back!!! My biggest achievement this week .

I nearly fell off my chair when he came on screen. Oh what would we do without our high warlock.

I'm so excited to see other book-movie adaptations now because City of Bones has lifted my expectation levels. Here are some movies I am anticipating:
  • Catching Fire

Yeah, it's not called Hunger Games II. I hope it's good because it's my favourite book of the series.
  • The Book Thief

The casting is so spot on! Every character is already breaking my heart. I just can't form words to express how much approval I'm radiating. THE ACCENTS ARE AMAZING. Even this trailer makes me so sad! I might go watch this movie alone if I can't find anyone else who have read the book from my school. I don't want to cry in front of them when they don't know the story line in two different dimensions  as they will think I'm a huge baby, because I know I will cry without a doubt.
  • Percy Jackon and Sea of Monsters

Only took them a century to finally make the second film. I thought the first movie was not so true to the book, but the trailer of the second looks very promising. DO NO LET ME DOWN LOGAN.
  • Divergent.

Like Jamie, I did not approve of Shailene and Theo (Theos was actually in my Hunger Games dream cast that I created before the official castings) but it only took a 12 seconds teaser trailer to change my mind. Yes Shailene and Theo, yes, you do your thang.

  2. I've never heard about this new book series before all the movies ads and promotion -this is how uncool you get after 20s >.< - however I the reviews are pretty satisfying and I usually share your tastes so as soon as I can I'm going to give the movie and the books a try! Glad you were so happy with it, being a fangirl over tons of things myself I know how upsetting it can get when movies dont meet your expectations -see Twilight-.
