School has started for me. It's a little disappointing we're not doing any team building activities for the first day and went straight to classes. I guess I'm still finding it hard to wake up at 7am and getting back in the swing of things.
Today in English we were keeping to a dystopian theme. The teacher said some statements and we had to say if we agree, disagree, strongly agree or strongly agree. Had a tiny weeny debate with one of the year 13 over one statement which was whether the government had the rights to torture a possible threat to society. A topic I'm no stranger too and have had a debate with my best friend over it (lol).
After watching Death Note Daisy expressed to me how she thought what Light was doing was right (killing criminals with his death note) while I said nay. The way I see it, no one has the divine right of god to make a choice if others should die. What the year 13 was suggesting was a law that's "an eye for an eye" but I don't understand how that is logical. Say a man murders someone, the man is then to be killed? But if the government kills the murderer, wouldn't the government be a murderer them self? Like they say; an eye for an eye makes the world go blind.
I just thought it's interesting how we could have such different opinions. Interesting the human mind is. I sound like a psycho path but I really do find things like this fascinating.

I had many debates on that too! On my part, I believe the eye for eye should be applied to rapers. Period. But as far as death sentence is concerned, I also believe that's up to God, we shouldn't have to have a say over someone's life, that's out of our rights, justice and moral.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you and have often said to my friends that the death penalty is a stupid charge because aren't they just as bad as the murderer? <3
ReplyDeleteLove your instashots, your nails are adorable! And your shorts, can't wait for winter to pass here.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I have to agree with you, it's not one's call whether someone should die or not. I do believe in punishment for crimes but that's what criminal lock up facilities are for. Plus, I think sometimes the death penalty is an easy way out for them, they don't really get to repent or truly face what they did.
You don't sound like a pyschopath, I really enjoyed reading about this debate.
ReplyDeleteAlso, you go back the same day as most Australian schools :)

Haha, you think just like me, I always hope when I go back to uni, there is some 'welcome back' a general warm up before classes begin. Unfortunately reality sucks. haha. And I agree with you about torturing or capital punishment too. If people get punished for committing murders for example, what right do we have to end someones life. I really like the quote that 'an eye for an eye will make the whole world blind.' so true!! :) It's inspiring how you're not afriad to have a perhaps, different opinion and standing by it! Go you! ^^
