Shopping in the city on Anzac day

Hello my dear readers! Yesterday I went out shopping with D in central Auckland. Unfortunately we picked to go shopping on Anzac day, which isn't so bad but our initial plan was to go earlier but since the shops didn't open until 1 we arrived at around 12:30.

Did you know from Flatbush it only takes about 25 minutes to get to the city despite contradictory belief? I suppose people think it takes longer because of the motor way but given that traffic is flowing you'll be in the city in no time at all.

Emily once bought me a few bracelets from Fiji and one of them fashioned these eyes. It wasn't until today that I found out what they are for. For those who don't now it's called Nazar and it wards of the evil eye (pretty much everything bad like jealousy/injuries/ill wishes). I'll be definitely wearing Nazar more as before I suspected it was religious and didn't want to offend other's from that religion but after educating myself I know this symbol has spread quite a bit from its origins, even as far as South East Asia where I'm from.

My first time trying AriZona. Mine was the Green tea with honey. It's nothing out of the ordinary and if you ask me, it tastes exactly like Lipton. Not to say it's bad, I like the drink, I'm just saying if Lipton is cheaper I would opt for Lipton. Though AriZona does have very pretty packagings.

We stopped by a Turkish pizza house before shopping as we did arrive slightly before 1 o'clock.

Stealing chips from Daisy.

Don't worry she had some of my pizza too, after all I had more than enough to share as I accidentally ordered the large pizza instead of the small. (I even had three slices left to bring home for my brothers)

First time I went into the underground Japan Dollar Mart. They sold high end Japanese skin care brands too! I was very tempted to grab an Aqua gel called Cure that Tricia Gosingtian had blogged about but it was $50+ and that would have broke half my budget for the day already. I guess next time if I still want it, I'll arrive at the store mentally prepared to spend that much.

D and I fumbled our way around the city trying to find hidden stores off the main street and we found this little plaza.

I wish this store was open, I would have liked to see what I'd look like with different coloured hair.

One of the many Asian stores in the plaza.

Stumbled across Ippondo after D desperately failed to find Dolly Wink eyeliners. I was a little curious myself as my cousin bought me one and I should like to be able to buy more for myself in future.

I wanted to try everything! However I had hardly bought any clothing item at the time and I know myself well enough to know I would fall in love with a lot of clothes that day. I refrained myself and only bought one thing from the place.

Having a break. D treated me to Starbucks because she thought I deserved it for reasons I shouldn't brag about here. I bought the mango (for D) and cappuccino (for myself) macaroons to test out Starbuck's quality. Taking D's word for it, she says it's a lot better than McDonald's macaroons since I've never tried their's.

At least I know where to come if I'm overflowing with money.

Going up to D's hotel room (well her dad's but for the purpose of this post say "D's hotel room" is a lot easier to say than "D's dad's hotel room", but I may have defeated the purpose as I write this lengthy explanation).

The lift only works if you have a card, not creepy-stalker-friendly.

"Guess what floor."
"No I'll get it wrong."
"I'll give you 5 guesses."
"I'll get all 5 wrong."

The wind carried my dress.

Daisy took this one because I was too scared to lead over the railing.

I finally plucked up the guts to stand on the step and D caught my initial reaction on camera (on the left).

Jack I'm flying!

A day well spent, and by spent I mean we really spent.

View of the Harbour bridge.

D in her new shirt.

A better look of my make-up, though my orange lipstick had long came off since I ate pizza.

Here is an instagram shot I took before leaving the house where you can see my lipstick better. @serynastar
I originally was preparing for colder weather as the previous day was rainy but after sitting in my room before heading to D's house the sun beat down hotter and hotter, until I was forced to remove the beanie.

Haul time:
The Dolly Wink eyebrow powder was what I ended up getting from Ippondo. My old fake lashes came to their due date and so it's time to replace them.

This was actually the last thing I bought that day but it was the first thing I had decided to buy.

$16 for a belt is a bit much for me but it's very rare I ever come across a belt that fits me snug. Given that they hugged me with so much affection I'd be cruel to not take them home.

I had been eyeing out plain khaki green military style jackets for so long! I found one online which I was committed to buying but I found this one which were cheaper so it made sense to grab these instead. I bought quite a big size, two sizes up in fact but I think this style of jacket looks best over-sized anyways.

These cause a dilemma I face too often for my liking. They would fit my snug around my hips but hoola hoop around my waist. I bought them anyways because I figured I can always wear a belt (hint hint look above).

The whole day I had looked around every store for a basic baggy white tee but they were all $15-$25. Insane. Valleygirl was my last hope but I only found one in army green. I don't mind the colour so I decided to get them instead. I bought a bigger size because I was after the baggy look.

All and all I loved the day! Is it weird that I don't mind the crowded stores and busy cross roads? Though if I could change one thing would be their public toilets, they were...I don't even know how to describe them. Another point, the city has Valleygirl. You can not win me over any more than this. Valleygirl is my all time most shopped at store.

Let's end on a cheesy note:

I actually heard this in a store yesterday and that's how I discovered the song.

I'm off to play LoL now because I'm finally home for the whole day with nothing to do since holiday has started. Love, S xo

  1. I own several Nazar bracelets and other objects, they've always fascinated me, so I gathered a good collection for myself from Greece which has 'em everywhere!
